Growing Up in the Digital Age
How to cope with the role of digital screens and accompany our children in every phase of their development
Join the 3-6-9-12 association to hear experts give us recommendations on how to deal with these new technologies, maintain healthy relationships and protect our well-being.
“In front of a screen, either you don’t see time go by or you spend it scrolling and shifting your attention from one screen to the next. The explosion of images, sounds and information that flow rapidly one after the other creates a permanent and immediate pleasure. And we are as much at risk of spending too much time on it as our children! It is together that we will transform our relationship with screens.”
This is the observation of Serge Tisseron, Psychiatrist, member of the Académie des Technologies, Doctor of Psychology, qualified to direct research in Clinical Human Sciences, associate researcher at the University of Paris. In 2007, he develops two types of preventive measures to fight against overexposure to screens among children: the first, supported by the association “3-6-9-12, apprivoiser les écrans et grandir,” establishes guidelines related to children’s development and reflects on the impact of images at each age.
The second is a prevention activity implemented in schools, called “Jeu des trois figures” to develop empathy from kindergarten to 6th grade, which is approved by the French National Education.
He also created in 2013 the Institute for the Study of Human-Robot Relations (IERHR).
To face the rapid evolution of technologies and its impact on our daily lives, Serge Tisseron created the 3-6-9-12 association, a group of field practitioners, researchers and academics, who wish to participate in educating the public on screens and digital tools.
IFS is pleased to welcome two of the 3-6-9-12 association members, Sophie Bruneteaux, Education Development and Learning psychologist, and Olivier Duris, Clinical Psychologist, Doctor in Psychopathology and Psychoanalysis.
They will give talks on 11 and 13 April to discuss screens and their dangers. There will be two themes as follows:
“How to tame screens and grow up in the digital age, from 0 to 12 years old”*
with Sophie Bruneteaux
Tuesday 11 April, at 7:00 P.M. at Amphitheatre 2900
&
“Video Games, Social Networks and Teenagers”*
with Olivier Duris
Thursday 13 April 2023, at 7:00 P.M. at Amphitheatre 2900
IFS is delighted to host this discussion between two experts, providing families, with up-to-date preventive information and recommendations regarding the use of screens by children of different ages. These guidelines are essential in order to ensure a connected, enlightened and responsible society and in particular are essential for accompanying children in their use of screens at each phase of their development and learning.
*These talks will be in French with simultaneous translation into English.
