Born in Guadeloupe on 1 January 1972, Lilian Thuram is a French author and former professional football player from 2001 to 2008. Lilian Thuram started his career as a football player in 1991 in the French suburbs, where he played as a defender. Between 1996 and 2000, his career was marked by the glorious days in the French Football team, making the semi-finals at the European cup in 1996 and winning the World Cup in 1998, defeating Brazil by 3-0.

Lilian Thuram continued his prestigious career by winning the European Championship final in 2000 and the Confederations Cup in 2003.

In 2008, he ended his career and founded his Foundation: the Lilian Thuram Foundation, for Education Against Racism, the cornerstone of which is the truth: “We are not born racist. We become it.”

In 2009, he published his first book, “My Black Stars”, highlighting topics related to immigration and racism, inspired by his life and personal experiences. He won the Seligmann Prize against racism in 2010.

His latest novel is “La Pensée Blanche: How Racial Bias is Constructed and How to Move Beyond it.” He traces the origins of supremacist ideology and analyses the current situation.

Lilian Thuram is in Singapore to present his book and discuss its themes with IFS students.
