Enhancing Student Motivation: What, How and Why?

DESCRIPTION

During this webinar, we will discuss how to guide students through their school experience better, especially during these extraordinary times.  We will look at how we can support their desire to learn, their need to cooperate, their will to persevere, their determination to succeed for themselves, and their emotions. 

To do so, we will look at the concept of school motivation from a social-cognitive perspective. We will uncover some of its determinants, such as the feeling of competence, control beliefs, the value placed on learning, achievement goals, and some of its indicators, such as engagement and perseverance. 

In light of a recognised framework, (the TARGET model by Professor Joyce Epstein of John Hopkins University), we will see how contexts can help teachers and parents support this motivation to learn. 

From a more global perspective, we will look at how IFS seeks, experiments, evaluates and innovates in this field through student-centred and student-focused approaches and its internal training for staff. 

We will gain insights into student motivation during this webinar and how it is of paramount importance for success, well-being, and fulfilment!

BIOGRAPHY

Emmanuel Bernet is a Canadian teacher and field researcher of French origin. With 25 years of experience in elementary school teaching and with a doctorate in Educational Sciences (educational psychology option) from the University of Montréal, he has developed an expertise on school motivation, educational technologies, competency-based approaches and learning contexts in disadvantaged and multicultural environments.

For the past eight years, in addition to teaching in French at lower elementary levels at the International French School (Singapore), he advises the school on educational psychology and technology and continuing education for the staff. 

Emmanuel is a research member at the “Centre de Recherche Interuniversitaire sur la Formation et la Profession Enseignante” (CRIFPE) and associate member at the International Institute of Bioenergetic Analysis (IIBA/SOQAB).
