RACINE(S) is a creation of Compagnie du Marcheur, commissioned by IFS for its students, staff, and the community. The play takes you behind the scenes with two actors, Clémence and Julien, as they come together to stage one of Jean Racine’s plays. While Clémence has become a specialist in Racine’s tragedies, Julien has somewhat forgotten what he learned at the conservatory about the classical playwright and alexandrine verse. Playful and light-hearted, the piece explores the grand dialogues of Jean Racine found in Phèdre, Andromaque, Britannicus, and Bérénice—dialogues often studied in high school. It’s an opportunity to revisit the roots of contemporary theatre, refresh our memories, and have an enjoyable time.
Clémence LONGY
After initial training at Cours Florent, Clémence Longy joined ENSATT in 2011. She has worked with directors such as Jean-Pierre Vincent, Bernard Sobel, and Clara Simpson. She was part of the TNP troupe and was directed by Christian Schiaretti in Antigone by Jean-Pierre Siméon and Phèdre by Jean Racine. Recently, she played the title role in Friedrich von Schiller’s play Marie Stuart, directed by Maryse Estier. She previously performed in a show presented at IFS in 2019, Les Lais de Marie de France, which she co-directed with Julien Tiphaine.
Julien TIPHAINE
He joined the 65th class of ENSATT (National School of Arts and Techniques of Theater, Lyon). He appeared in Baal by Bertolt Brecht, directed by Sylvain Creuzevault. He was part of the TNP troupe and worked with Christian Schiaretti in Coriolan by William Shakespeare, Par-dessus bord by Michel Vinaver, 7 Farces et Comédies by Molière, and Phèdre by Jean Racine. Since then, he has collaborated with Robin Renucci at the Théâtre de la Criée in Marseille, performing in Andromaque and Britannicus by Jean Racine. He has previously presented two shows at the school: La Chanson de Roland, a solo performance directed by Ch. Schiaretti, and Les Lais de Marie de France, co-directed with Clémence Longy.
